ADILAH CAST IN HENRY JAGLOM'S

NEW FILM, "THE M WORD"

Adilah Barnes

Adilah worked on Henry Jaglom's upcoming film, The M Word in December, 2011. Known for his quirky signature films that explore feminist topics, this film focuses on menopause, menses and men.

The M Word moves in a naturalistic style that Henry has come to be known for dating back to his film, Can She Bake a Cherry Pie? Henry also allows his actors some measure of freedom in his improvisational and organic approach to directing. He debuted as an independent film director in 1971 when he directed Jack Nicholson and Orson Welles in A Safe Place.

Adilah plays an office worker who is among 30 other women who share their real personal  menopausal stories, along with men who express how they have been affected by women "going through the change."

The cast of The M Word is led by actors Tanna Frederick (Hollywood Dreams), Corey Feldman (Lost Boys), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos) and Francis Fisher (Janie Jones).

Adilah will go into a Los Angeles studio the week-end of January 14, 2012 to record voice-overs for the documentary film, "A Driving Rein." This moving true story about love, courage and friendship chronicles the relationship of a young girl, Amy Hisrich, and her underdog horse Nick. A small horse, raised in a backyard pasture, Nick is seen as less than the ideal Arabian by many in the horse show world. Their victory in a national championship event will inspire viewers of all ages.

Says Amy, "To go National Champion at all is the greatest honor anybody in the horse industry could ever hope for, but to go National Championship with Nick was just so extremely special to me because it proved the odds wrong. Nobody thought we could do it."

Amy and Nick won the Arabian Pleasure Driving - Junior to Drive Competition at the 1992 United States Youth National Championship.

"A Driving Rein" will air this spring on Pegasus TVa 24/7 equestrian-focused television network currently providing on-the-air broadcast transmissions in several major test markets as well as live webcasts of its national feed via its website.

It has been nine years since the momentous occasion of Amy's win and with the aid of investors, a sequel could be planned. For inquiries, please contact Producer Melvin H. Cox at melvin@SportsQuestInternational.com or by telephone at 702-475-5562 or Head Writer Cindy Hisrich at cjhisrich1@gmail.com or by telephone at 928-451-2971.

Congrats to Amy and Nick on such a touching story where dreams really can come true!

ADILAH JOINS OTHER ARTISTS IN SERVING SENIORS AT ST. JOHN OF GOD

St. John of God Retirement and Care Center

From left to right: percussionist Munyungo Jackson, workshop instructor Iona Morris, LAWTF Board member Donesther Dane, LAWTF co-founder Adilah Barnes, administrative assistant Niki Blumberg and teaching assistant/scribe Pboebe Holston.

On April 25, 2011 Adilah joined teaching artist Iona Morris, teaching assistant/scribe Phoebe Holston and Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival (LAWTF) staff administrative assistant and actor Niki Blumberg for the finale class of What Rich Lives We Live storytelling workshop at the manicured St. John of God Retirement and Care Center in Los Angeles. Under the skilled leadership of Iona, this moving 12-week workshop met weekly on Monday afternoons and allowed seniors the opportunity to give voice to the many moving stories from their lives.

All professional actors, Iona, Phoebe, Niki and Adilah brought the participants stories alive for the final presentations. A beautiful booklet called Sonny's Corner was compiled with the many stories shared in the workshop. The elders sat proudly as they heard their names acknowledged and many of their stories read. Accompanying the readers was gifted percussionist Munyungo Jackson, who like the four actors, also contributed a story or two.

One senior was heard saying to another as she thumbed through their valued booklet with interest, "There's my name right there!" Another said, "I am from Rhode Island and don't have much family here. This place has become my home and this workshop has meant SOOO much to us. I feel so proud that the title of the book is named after my husband!"

The booklet was named after the resident's late husband because she has his favorite chair and lamp in a corner of her room at the senior center, allowing his presence to always be near her. This workshop that took place in the facility's beautiful library was also a "corner" for storytelling, and thus the Sonny's Corner title for the booklet.

The Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival offered two 12-week senior storytelling workshops for the 2010-11 fiscal year. The former, Crossing Bridges Through Story, was taught by storyteller Ina Buckner-Barnett at the Wise Senior Center in Santa Monica.

Both workshops were made possible from a California Arts Council Creating Public Value Grant. Many thanks to the California Arts Council for allowing the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival to offer these two free 12-week storytelling workshops for seniors.

The actors felt honored to be a part of this very heartwarming day!
